Effective June 3, 2024, the Narok County Government enforced a ban on the use of private vehicles for game drives within the Masai Mara National Reserve. This decision aligns with the Maasai Mara Management Plan and aims to regulate tourism activities to ensure sustainable environmental practices.
According to the letter copied to all the gate section commanders and all airstrip commanders, Chief Park Administrator Alex Nabaala said, "The vehicles that will be used during game drives are safari trucks, safari Land Cruisers, and safari vans only and no private vehicles will be allowed into the reserve."
Visitors planning to explore the Masai Mara, especially during the wildebeest migration that happens between June and October, should make arrangements with certified safari operators. Due to the high demand for authorized vehicles, it is highly recommended to book early to secure your spot. Compliance with this new regulation is mandatory to avoid any inconveniences during your visit. For more details on how to arrange your visit to the Masai Mara, contact Olanka Safaris.
